The University of Florida, founded in1853, is home of the “Gators” and Gatorade. The “Gators” was chosen as the school mascot in 1911 after a local vendor sold school pennants with an alligator printed on them. And an assistant football coach asked a team of researchers at Florida to come up with something to help players in the heat of Florida. So don’t spill your gatorade while doing the “gator chomp.”
