The University of South Carolina was established in an effort to unite South Carolinians during the American Revolution. South Carolina’s sports teams, the Gamecocks, were named after Revolutionary War hero Thomas Sumter and his nickname, “Carolina Gamecock.” The athletics program has soared over the years and has a large and loyal fan base.
The buildings depicted are located in The Horseshoe and are the South Caroliniana Library, Maxcy Monument, McKissick Museum, Lieber College, and Longstreet Theatre.
