UNC Greensboro was founded as a women’s college in 1891. It was the first public university in North Carolina founded for the purpose of educating women. In 1949, it became the largest all-female institution in the United States. The campus became co-ed in 1964.
The buildings depicted in the Spartans artwork are the Alumni House, Foust, and Jackson Library. The Alumni House was built in 1937. It was restored in 2008 and has played host to weddings, receptions, meetings, and more. The Foust building was built in 1891. Jackson Library opened in 1950.
